Award-winning Contemporary Artist
Jason Hirst is an award winning contemporary Australian artist and designer whose practice is driven by a passion for creating meaningful public experiences through art, landscape, and functional form.
With nearly 30 years of experience across public art, interior architecture, landscape design, and urban furniture, Hirst has developed a multidisciplinary approach that merges sculptural beauty with purpose and human interaction. His work is grounded in the belief that public spaces should not only function well, but also inspire connection, curiosity, and emotional engagement.
Through carefully considered forms, materials, and storytelling, his projects seek to create lasting outcomes that enrich both community and place. A defining aspect of Hirst’s practice is his long standing collaboration with Peter Farmer, a creative partnership spanning more than 20 years. Together, they explore contemporary narratives informed by traditional stories, symbolism, and cultural connection to Country, creating works that balance artistic expression with authenticity and respect for site.
Alongside a growing studio team of emerging artists and collaborators, Hirst fosters a highly creative and collaborative environment where ideas are shared, challenged, and refined to achieve strong collective outcomes. His ability to communicate ideas clearly and work collaboratively with artists, architects, fabricators, consultants, and communities has become central to his practice.
Deeply involved in every stage of a project, from concept development through to fabrication and installation, Hirst brings extensive experience in material selection, large scale delivery, and transforming functional infrastructure into enduring sculptural works and public experiences.
